Caim is not your idealistic goody goody main character. Although this game has five endings, none of them are a happily ever after. The only other game I've played that had a similar feel is Nier for the PS3. It's also what makes this game different from most others. To me, this is the real reason the game is rated M, not the blood. STORY: The plot of this game is very dark and gritty. Too often I'm hacking at an enemy I can't really see because he's standing between Caim and the Camera. My biggest complaint is the camera while on the ground: you can move it how you like, but it doesn't really stay there. The fighting may seem repetitive to some, but there's something satisfying about killing every single enemy, especially when one fireball from your dragon can wipe out a whole squad. It's nothing essential, but it's kind of fun to get those little tidbits. The weapons also level up as you use them, making them stronger and revealiing the weapon's past. No matter your fighting style, you'll find a weapon that best suits it. There are a ton of unique weapons to collect, and they all have a different magic spell, attack speed, range, and strenght. GAMEPLAY: Some levels are aerial combat, kind of like Star Fox, some restrict you to fighting as Caim, which is your basic hack and slash style, but most let you fight on the ground or in the air as you choose. While it will never be the greatest game of all time, it will keep you entertained. But years later I had the urge to replay it and hunted it down on ebay. When I initially played this game I thought it was just ok, but not something I would ever bother to play again. Wonderfully dark, gritty, depressing, and thoroughly addictive. Though, with the currently high asking price on this one, you may easily find better ways to spend your hard earned cash.
#DARK ID DRAKENGARD 3 SERIES#
Overall, if you're like me and you just want to start the series from scratch, go for it. You'll be grinding your weapon levels to make it through some of the later fights (particularly the air battles bosses) and there are a number of different endings you'll probably want to unlock to make more sense of the fairly up-in-the-air plot taking place here. Honestly, I really only tracked down the original Drakengard in order to play through the series from the start and while I'm still glad I did and the future games looks to be better in a number of ways, this first game was a bit of a slog to get through at times. Truth be told, I enjoyed my time with Drakengard, I just don't think it's worth any more than 10 bucks (unfortunately though, $40 is about the minimum you'll find this one going for at the time of writing this). To be perfectly frank, if you're looking for a game with a good a amount of variety, I don't think you'll find it here, so long as you don't find switching from ground fights to dragon air battles ever next level a detriment to your experience. The game is being developed by Lord of Arcana maker Access Games and has the original Drakengard series leads on the title.Good framework for the series. When Zero is covered in blood she gets even stronger.ĭrakengard 3 comes out for PlayStation 3 this year.

Screenshots of the game show Zero sword dancing through enemies and taking to the sky while riding a dragon.

One even questions why the Utatai came to this world. She has a strong sense of justice and is known for being rational. One is the exact opposite of her older sister. Zero has an artificial arm and a flower in her right eye that keeps growing.

She also has a rather promiscuous personality. Zero is known for having a violent personality and being troublesome. On top of being a powerful songstress, Zero is also skilled with a sword. Why did Zero suddenly show up in front of One? Why did she ally with a dragon? And what in the world are the Utatai? Darkness once again shrouds over the world. Zero is also an Utatai and said to be the strongest among them. One day, One’s older sister Zero shows up with a dragon. She is poised to become unite all the Utatai and stand on the top of the world. One, a young Utatai, holds a strong desire to bring peace and balance to the world. The Goddesses were worshiped for ending conflict and were entrusted control of the world. Peace was finally brought to this chaotic world. These Goddesses use the magical power of songs to defeat warlords ruling the land. In the distant past when darkness swept the world with war and tyranny, Goddesses called "Utatai" saw mankind was suffering and descended on the world. Drakengard 3 centers on two characters Zero and her younger sister One. Yoko went on to help Square Enix design monsters for Monster X Dragon and now he’s continuing the Drakengard series. Square Enix announced Drakengard 3, a pleasant surprise since Taro Yoko took a break from game development after Nier.
